Cooking Instructions

step 1

Toast Black Sesame Seeds (1 cup) in a pan or oven and then ground them into powder. Smaller particles can be accepted for the filling.

step 2

In a bowl, mix black sesame powder with Salt (1/4 tsp) and Powdered Confectioners Sugar (1 cup).

step 3

Pour Unsalted Butter (2/3 cup) and mix well. Place in fridge for 1 hour until slightly hardened.

step 4

Place the Sweet Glutinous Rice Flour (2 cups) into a large bowl, add Water (4 Tbsp) in the center and wait for 10 minutes. Then pour in the Water (3/4 cup).

step 5

Grasp to form a dough and keep kneading for a couple of minutes until smooth; shape the dough into a long log so that you can make similar pieces in the following step.

step 6

Take one piece and shape it into a bowl, then scoop around 1/2-1 Tbsp of toasted black sesame filling into the center. Seal the rice dumpling completely and make it as round as possible.

step 7

Put them in a large pot with water to cover them. Bring to a boil, and continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes after the tang yuans have floated to the surface.

step 8

Scoop out together with the cooking liquid and serve with sugar, sweet osmanthus or syrup.
