Cooking Instructions

step 1

First, preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and place rack in the middle of the oven.

step 2

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

step 3

In a large bowl, whisk together All-Purpose Flour (2 cups), Granulated Sugar (4 Tbsp), Baking Powder (1 tsp), Baking Soda (1/4 tsp), and Salt (1/4 tsp).

step 4

Cut the Butter (4 oz) into small cubes and blend into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter till it resembles coarse crumbs.

step 5

Next, stir in the Chocolate Chips (1/2 cup) and set aside.

step 6

In a small measuring cup containing Buttermilk (1/2 cup), add in Vanilla Extract (1 tsp).

step 7

Add in Red Food Coloring (1/2 tsp). Whisk everything together till well mixed.

step 8

Add into the flour mixture.

step 9

Stir JUST until the dough comes together. Do not over mix the dough.

step 10

Then transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and then pat the dough into a circle about 7 inches round and 1 1/2 inches thick.

step 11

Cut out heart shapes with a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Gather scraps and cut out additional heart shapes.

step 12

Place the heart shaped scones on the prepared baking sheet.

step 13

Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk. This helps in browning.

step 14

Then decorate with tiny sugar hearts.

step 15

Bake in preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.

step 16

Remove the baking sheet from oven and cool slightly on wire rack.

step 17

Then transfer the baked scones onto a wire rack to cool. And we're done!

step 18

These scones are best eaten the day they are baked, preferably shortly after they are out from the oven. As always, enjoy!
